Need tips and info on buying a used wooden swing set?

I am thinking about purchasing a used wooden swing set/play structure. I’ve look at a couple Rainbow Brand, and ceder ones. I was just wondering how well they hold up when being disassembled, transported and then re assembled. If anyone has done this before, let me know how it worked out for you. I don’t want to waste my money, even the used ones can be pretty expensive.

We helped move a very large wood playset from our son’s home he sold to their new home. The children loved the set so it was well worth the move. (Three swings, 8 foot slide, six foot tall fort on top, monkey bars etc.) The set was about 6 years old and the wood was still in very good condition because it is treated lumber. Examine the playset very carefully and find out how old it is if possible.

It took 4 men 8 hours to disassemble, load it on the long bed truck and reassemble the set. My husband drew a diagram of the playset and marked the parts so putting it back together was more efficient. You will need to dig holes for the legs so measure your yard space and mark the ground to indicate where the legs should be placed according to where they were in the yard it is coming from.

Anything you can think of to do in preparation makes the job easier. Get lots of help and be prepared to run to the hardware store if any bolts break.

These playsets are worth the time and effort to move. Good luck!

wanting ideas for kids play equipment.?

i need some cheap, safe, low maintenance ideas for something to put in my back yard under the swing set and little tike’s house, and other little toys. my husband is already tired of moving it all to mow and remove the weeds. so i wanted to build up a box like area and fill it with something so the weeds wont come through and the kids can play. no mud, no weeds, no fuss. i was thinking mulch, pea gravel, creek rock, i don’t know though. any ideas or anything neat and cheap you can think of would be great. thanks

Here ya go. Recycled rubber mulch as a playground padding. I particularly like when you click onto the different sample colors below the playground picture, it will change the color of the surface in the picture itself. KOOL!……The "green nuggets" is my favorite! :- )

Swing set question!!! Help!?!?

I want a tire swing and I figure I could just buy a simple wooden swing set, and instead of putting swings on, I’d just put a tire on to swing from. Every site I look at, the only Swing Sets they have are the ones with slides, rock walls, and/or swings on it, which I don’t want. I just want a simple, wooden structure I can put a tire swing on in stead of a real swing. I can’t find one for sale, though. Do any of you know a site with swing sets for sale that DON’T have anything on it already??? Or of any store near Mifflinburg, Lewisburg, or Selinsgrove in Pennsylvania???

A local carpenter could easily build you one.
Check with friends and family for a competent carpenter.

Would cinder blocks work for anchoring a indoor swing set?

I want to get a cheap swing set for indoors for my two little ones,would cinder blocks with the wholes anchor it ok?
i have lots of room,so room is NOT a problem.
well ty for the input, i’ll think about it good!!!

I’ve heard horror stories of swings going over and a cinder block happening to land on a child could be dangerous. If they are small children maybe you could put some safety cables from top bar of swing to ceiling and wrap cinder blocks in blankets or something soft. Think Safety

Do you know what I can use (application) to make my slide move faster? We just bought a swing set but the slides (one of those plastic types) surface is not very slick.
Good ideas, I wouldn’t have thought of that!

Automotive paste-wax does a fine job of making slides faster. But for a quick, easy fix, spray furniture wax does just fine.

Make our swing set sturdier?

We bought a wooden swing set used. It is built just like the one I linked to, minus the awning on the side of the fort and just a few years old. We noticed when we bought it that it leaned a bit, but figured we could make it sturdier. It was a very good deal, so we’re hoping we can fix it. How can we get it to stop leaning and be a safe thing for our kiddo’s to play on?

I would place a 2×6 across the bottom of swing side for the legs to set on, and connect with braces. If it can be access from the bottom, then I would screw a lag bolt through the bottom, if not, just use angle braces to connect. Then pour a cement footing for each leg, making sure the tops of them level to keep the swing set level. You might also want to put footing under the slide side as well, but that side is usually sturdy enough.
