Are the effects of el nino as dramatic in other parts of the country as they are along the west coast?

Do folks living in various parts of the country see the effects of el nino?
How is el nino experienced around the country?
Does it appear to most that el nino is connected to global warming?
Do you know that el nino exists, and what it is?
Is it a topic on your weather forecast?
Is it mentioned in school?

el nino

Have you heard of el nino
It makes it rain, it makes it snow,
It makes the weather really wild
And winter’s often really mild.

It’s called the southern oscillation
And messes with weather o’er all creation
It makes the water off Ecuador hot
While over near Indonesia, it’s not.

‘98 was a really hot year
In fact the heat was so severe
50 thousand souls went up to heaven,
4 times more than in ‘97

But what is this of which I speak
What makes the temperature peak
What drives that heat and snow and rain
That some folks think is such a pain.

It’s like a see-saw in the Pacific Ocean
A water event that sets in motion
A weather swing, a glorious thing
The snow pack makes the farmers sing

All over California farmers shout
And hoot and holler and dance about
O glory be, it’s about time
The sierra snows will be sublime

Water restrictions are finally over,
We’ll grow our fruit and wheat and clover
For several years, we’ve had it rough
Finally there’ll be water enough

To flood our fields and grow our rice
Oh my, it will be so nice
To worry about what crops to sell,
And not about our parched dry well.

Our oranges will be full and sweet
And even through the summer’s heat
We’ll water more, turn up the flow
And in the fall, our grain we’ll mow.

But what’s the difference, what is this
el nino that brings the farmers bliss
does all the world appreciate
the snow that we accumulate

alack alas, it’s not to pass
to say it did would be rather crass
el nino’s cause a hurricane
from southern Florida way up to Maine

but what about, what happens when
el nino stops, what happens then
ah ha, that’s good, I’m glad you asked
because that’s been our recent past.

la nina reigns, that’s not good either
it seems we never get a breather
Drought and fires and devastation
Beset our tired weary nation.

But that was then, and this is now
It’s time I stopped and took a bow
And leave us all a time to think
Because my printer’s out of ink.

Lin Lyons 2010

Did that increase your understanding of el nino?
<<The ‘weather’ is really strange here in the Puget Sound area.>>

i have read that. Whistler is doing fine, but the venue for snowboarding is more mud than snow. Frankly, i’d rather be out in snow at 25 than rain at 35 degrees. (or -3 and +3, if you’re Canadian :) In fact, i will be up there for a bit, but i don’t think i’ll get to see a lot of either skiing or boarding. The reality is that here in Calif, we desperately need the water. We’ve been in a multi-year drought, and we’re starting to catch up. The drought victims really are the farmers, who use something like 70-80% of the water. When they get their allocations cut, it’s a serious problem.

Nice poem LIn!

"Vampire-like" Photoshoot!!!?

On monday, i am going to be doing a "Vampire-Like" photo-shoot.
No there will not be any blood!
but we will be pale, and wearing these colors: grey, black, and red
the photos will be taken in the rain, its gonna be in a park. (trees, Swing Sets, etc.)
there is also a secret part of the park. there is a whole Acre of Mosaic statues!
any ideas!
in the shoot there will be 3 girls, and 1 boy!

No blood? that sounds like the worst vampire shoot ever. its your shoot though…

I’d make the boy the innocent victim being overcome by the vampire sirens. Don’t have the models look at the camera too much. If you do, have one of them, the dominant looking one, stare at the camera and the other two looking at the one looking at the camera. It shows power. I’d go for the blood though. Use a lot of camera angles, from just off the ground to shooting sharply down at them.

Most importantly, keep your camera DRY. Good Luck.

Is the start any good?

Full Summary: Two best friends, ripped apart first by cruel words and a deadly accident will never be the same. One year after the death of his best friend, Rance starts to have hallucinations. Or at least that is what he thinks until he finds out these people he sees are part of a group called The Order of the Carnation, better known as "Balancers". These people keep worldy order, never letting the scales tip more in favor of good or evil. When Rance finds out that he has the blood of a Red Carnation, he also realizes his best friend had as well. He wants to join her, help her. Except to join her world, he has to die in his first.

Chapter One: Accidently Said

The hard bottoms of Rance’s shoes left cluttered marks in the trail of murky mud that slept on the path to the park. He had seen things he didn’t want to today. The kind of thing that is not so easy to extinguish from his mind. Rance made his way to an old bench, already occupied by moss and rain. Earlier that day, the sight of Adelina, his former best friend and crush was kissing her time to time boyfriend, Brock. That afternoon she was supposed to help him babysit, but she decided to stand him up, just this once, or maybe for the 3rd time this week. All this drama made anger and jealousy boil to the highest meter inside of his system. Rance was sure if he could be the one to see his facial expression of the moment, there would be a big, fat scowl plastered to the center of his red lips.

The sun was situated high in the center of the sky, telling him that it was only nearly 4:00 pm. School had just let out, not even an hour and a half ago. Rance made the decision, and didn’t care what punishment came along with it. He didn’t want to babysit; he was simply going to ask Adelina to meet him at the park, so he could see what all this standing up and being late was all about.

A high chiming noise came from the denim pocket of his jeans. The sound meant only one thing. It was Adelina’s ringtone.

He texted her earlier to meet her at Ridgewood Park, the bench by the swing set. Rance set his oversized book bag, full of tonight’s shipment of homework down next him in attempt to rid the seat next to him of water.

The text message said she was just walking into the park entrance, through the trees and wild plants.

******************************

Adelina’s brown curls were tangled together, for she had fallen on her way into the park. She was thankful that the sun decided to show itself for the first time in what seemed like a billion years. The ground was still a mud pit of disaster if she were to fall again. She believed that she deserved it after what she did to Rance. She was looking forward to babysitting his nephew after school, but then again, she didn’t get to do it all week.

Sadly, her boyfriend, temporary at times of course, was bugging her all day about wanting to be alone with her and how life is not fair. All that matter. Adelina wasn’t going to give in so easy, because underneath, if you get pass stress and life as she knows it, she really cares about the promises she makes, but she knew she wasn’t doing a very good job at showing it.

She stumbled a few times and glanced up at the grayish skies. Various thoughts clouded her mind. What kind of friend was she being to Terrance? He always hated his name, so he merely shortened it to just Rance Felton. A boy who was quite attractive with round blue eyes and straight black hair. A little tanner than most, but his pale side would always show at random times.

Adelina couldn’t help the fact that she felt like a million fluttering flurries made her stomach do flip flops when she was around him and more likely when she was touching him.

With all of her heart, she hoped that Rance was still waiting for her by the swings.

Too many unnecessary adjectives, a LOT of narrative with very little action. And the "Balancers" sound a lot like the Avatars from Charmed.
You’ve put up several posts tonight: you seem to be working on multiple ideas with multiple sets of characters at the same time. Focus is important as a writer. If you aren’t focused, your writing won’t be either.
And MY GOD, please pick a verb tense! It’s a common thread through all your pieces: present, past, future, conditional, past, future, present- all in the course of a single paragraph. It becomes tiresome quite quickly.

Edit: If you’re going to put a word in the name of a chapter, at least spell it correctly. It’s "accidentally".

What’s that song in Pineapple Express?

It’s after the car chase that they had, and then Dale and Saul got into an argument and left each other and then a song came on and it sounded like Bob Marley but I don’t know if it is. What song is it? And answer only if you know it, not if you think you know it because that pisses me off. If you don’t know it, then star this question to help me out so then I will help you out.
It’s not MIA, its not Coconut Girl by Brother Noland and it’s not Electric Avenue by Eddy Grant and it’s not Bones Thugs-N-Harmony, those songs are in the movie (except MIA) but at a different time in the movie and not the scene I’m talking about. It’s the part when you see Saul eating a burger on the swing set crying lol and it’s before Dale calls Angie.

Time Will Tell - Bob Marley…I know because I’m a HUGE Bob Marley fan and I was surprised to hear it in the movie, you rarely hear Bob songs in movies.

Oh and Peter Tosh also had a song featured on the sound track.

I'm replacing "french-door" swing gates (6'h x 7'w). I need to put a post in the middle. Problem-concrete...
